Maudiguda smart irrigation project is a first of its kind with an objective to provide a sustainable solution for irrigation water to marginal farmers. It also introduced “responsible water use” for farming with precision and smart agriculture.
The concept of shared irrigation as a utility service for the farmers was introduced. Most of the locations in the project area are water-stressed. Hence, achieving water efficiency through technology as well as through sustainable practices by the farmers was even more critical in the region. Smart AQUAnet™ has achieved all the goals set forth at the design stage of the project.
Since its commissioning in March 2018, Maudiguda Smart Irrigation System has been operating successfully and has resulted in the desired positive outcome – empowering of the farmers for irrigation with water efficiency. The System is operated by a local farmer, selected from amongst the willing farmers to be one.
The 3Hp solar pumping with Smart AQUAnet serves serves 41 farmers holding 27 acres of land. Previously, the farmers used to cultivate only one crop in the rainy season, now they are able to cultivate three crops a year. This has led to an increase in the income of the farmers by almost 10-fold. According to SPARSH, earlier each acre was generating ₹15,000 to ₹20,000. Post Smart AQUAnet™, income from each acre is ₹1,80,000 to ₹2,10,000/-.
