Access to quality and affordable water resources is crucial for agriculture. We have addressed the issues of water availability, usage, monitoring, and conservation through a technology-cum-social innovation. Smart AQUAnet™ is an IoT/Cloud-based solution to remotely monitor, control, manage, and maintain water and nutrient delivery systems. It delivers the right quantity of water/nutrients to the right location/ (farmland) at the right time. It automates, monitors, and controls the supply and distribution of water and nutrients remotely. The system can be used for individual as well as community/shared water resources. Water supply limits can be set based on the hydrological conditions of the soil, type of crop, and quality of water. This not only conserves water and reduces cost, but also keeps the water-level in good conditions and improves the water ecosystem. The solution is compatible with all types of irrigation systems, whether conventional grid-connected or off-grid, existing or new, AC or DC, submersible or surface.
For community or shared irrigation, the system enables equitable, precise, predictable distribution of water to every farmer in the community. The framers can schedule and request water supply at their convenience, and are billed for the amount of water used. The system can be run by an “Aquapreneur” or by the community. The focus is on efficient utilization of shared resources, water conservation, and sustainable business model.
